Nicki Minaj polls fans to help her name new single
Nicki Minaj previewed a song titled “Freaky Girl” and said she would drop it on August 21, but then later tweeted that she couldn’t use that name anymore and needs a replacement.
Nick added a poll with the options: “He want a freaky girl”, “Super Freaky Girl”, and “Nick James”. The poll was quickly successful, catching 118.000 votes, with the most picked option so far being “Nick James”.
Nicki Minaj has been a popular rapper for years and has reinvented herself many times. Nicki was born in Trinidad, but moved to the U.S. with her family at age five. Nicki is known for her versatile lyrics and will often use different accents in her songs.
Minaj rose to fame with the release of her first five singles, which were successful. Her debut album was Pink Friday and it charted at number one. The track “Super Bass” reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and was silver certified by the RIAA.
Minaj’s follow-up album found success exploring a dance-pop sound and reached number one in several countries worldwide. In her third and fourth record, she explored more personal topics and finally returned to her hip hop roots.
The second single on her fourth album, “Anaconda”, peaked at number two on the Hot 100 chart and became the first female rap music video to reach one billion views on YouTube.
In 2019, Nicki Minaj’s collaboration with Karol G well became the longest running Argentina’s Hot 100 chart and stayed on number one. She also has been a number one Hot 100 artist with her remix of Doja Cat and her collaboration with 6ix9ine, but this is the first time she has done this as a female rapper.
Minaj is the first female artist to have 100 Billboard Hot 100 entries and she has 20 U.S. top ten singles with Beam Me Up Scotty (2009). The re-release of her mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty in 2021 was successful reaching the highest debut for a female rap mixtape on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Minaj has achieved success in the music industry and is one of the best-selling artists in history. She is so influential, that many media outlets have labeled her as one of the most influential rappers of all time. With more than a 100 million records sold, she also rocks the top female rapper spot for the 2010s.
Lady Gaga has a plethora of awards and accolades, ranging from American Music Awards to Billboard Awards. In 2016, Lady Gaga was included on Time’s the 100 most influential people in the world list.
Outside of music, she has been in films such as Ice Age: Continental Drift and The Angry Birds Movie 2. She also had a supporting role in 2014’s The Other Woman.
